Movies Never Die

Glow in the dark at showtime
/ Initiatives/ Movies Never Die

When the pandemic forced theaters to shut down their projectors and close their doors, we heard the same sweeping proclamations that always blare so loudly during these times of change and crisis... the inevitable death of cinema had finally arrived. The time had come for us all to accept that the past century of gathering together to experience films on the big screen was officially over, vanishing into irrelevance as we all disperse to the convenience of our couches forever.

But we, however, felt very differently. And never bought into this nihilistic noise.

Cinema is defined by its vital and enduring nature, by our perpetual human desire to connect around immersive and captivating stories in motion free from outside interruption, and by the resilience of the teams who curate and cultivate these communal experiences.

In solidarity with all those who care deeply for the future of cinemas - those revitalizing a new wave of independent theaters brick by brick and screening by screening - the words “Movies Never Die” were born as a tribute and a rallying cry.

We reached out to our good friend and artist Skinner who understood exactly what we were feeling and kindly designed a twisted illustration inspired by these three powerful words.

To evoke that kinetic energy audiences feel when enjoying a film together in a dark theater, we partnered with a screenprinter in Southern California to produce intensely vibrant colors that glow in the dark when the lights go down at showtime.

We then hosted photo shoots at independent cinemas in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, honoring the real teams who make the cinematic experience team possible, from the projection booth to the box office.

Through countless tests with screenprints and fabrics and styles, this premium line of hoodies, sweatshirts and long-sleeve tees is now available at moviesneverdie.com and through independent cinemas soon.
